Bomen zijn een onmisbaar deel van de natuur. Ze produceren zuurstof en voedsel, dragen bij aan waterbeheer en bevorderen de biodiversiteit als leefgebied voor talloze planten en dieren. Door koolstof op te slaan kunnen ze het broeikaseffect verminderen en zo een grote bijdrage leveren aan sociale uitdagingen als klimaatsverandering. Daarnaast vormen bomen, als in veel Hollandse landschapsschilderijen, een prachtige omgeving waar iedereen zich mee verbonden voelt, en zijn ze getuigen van de culturele geschiedenis die zich voltrekt tijdens hun leven. "Eindhoven heeft veel verschillende soorten bomen, met hun eigen verhalen. Er zijn bomen in de stad die al 100 jaar groeien op hun eigen plek. Kijk eens goed als je er langs loopt: wat voor karakter heeft de boom? Voel eens aan de bast – merk je waar het sap stroomt? Is de boom in rust of juist actief; jong, volwassen, of al een veteraan? Kun je het aflezen? Elke bomenwandeling raakt of kruist op zijn eigen manier de Ring, de langste straat van Eindhoven die alle stadsdelen verbindt." —Tom van Duuren
De wandeltochten, georganiseerd door Atelier NL in opdracht van de gemeente Eindhoven, zijn onderdeel van de viering van het honderdjarig bestaan van Groot-Eindhoven 1920-2020. De wandelingen worden beschreven door bos- en boombeheerder Tom van Duuren, een gepassioneerd verteller met een grote liefde voor de natuur én voor de stad Eindhoven. Met het initiatief Dommelse Kracht zet hij zich al meer dan tien jaren in voor behoud van bijzondere stedelijke natuur en voor een groenere toekomst voor onze stad.
Daarnaast stelt de gemeente aan Eindhovenaren die aan de Ringbaan wonen of werken 100 zaailingen beschikbaar om mee naar huis te nemen en in de tuin te planten. Meld je aan via ateliernl.com om een boom te reserveren voor jouw terrein. Samen maken we de stad groener!

Trees are a vital part of nature—they produce oxygen, help with water management and food production, as well as foster biodiversity by providing a habitat for many plants and animals. By capturing carbon and subsequently helping to create a cooler climate, they also contribute greatly to social challenges such as climate change. Yet, as is evident in many Dutch landscape paintings, they also create beautiful landscapes which we can all connect to, and stand as beholders of the cultural history that has transpired throughout their lifetime.

Wander past a tree and take a good look — what kind of character does the tree have? Feel the bark — do you sense where the sap flows? Is the tree young, mature, or an elder? Is it dormant or active? How do you read it? Every tree on this walk is unique in the way that it touches or crosses the Ring, the longest street in Eindhoven that connects all city districts. " —Tom van Duuren
The walking tours, organized by Atelier NL and commissioned by the municipality of Eindhoven, are part of the centennial celebration of Groot-Eindhoven 1920-2020. The walks are described by tree and forest manager, Tom van Duuren, a passionate storyteller who holds a great love for nature and the city of Eindhoven. Along with the initiative Dommelse Kracht, for more than ten years Tom has been committed to preserving the value of urban nature in order to sustain a greener future for our city.
Furthermore, the Municipality is making 100 young trees available to Eindhoven residents who live or work along the Ringbaan to take home and plant in their garden or backyard. Register via ateliernl.com to reserve a tree for your property. Together we will make the city greener!
